About · the people and the engine
Wherebase is a hosted spatial memory for AI agents: a database of what was where, when, that any camera can fill and any AI can ask over MCP. It is an independent project, not a venture-funded company, built in public since 2026.
Wherebase is made by Zygmunt Dyras, an engineer working between Austin, Texas and Kraków, Poland. The project started as a question about assistive technology: could a pendant with a camera tell someone who cannot see where they left their cup? Answering it well needed a memory that keeps place and time together, and that memory turned out to be useful to every assistant and every robot.
LOCI is the engine under Wherebase: a memory that stores where and when together, ages old sightings into summaries without losing them, and knows when something is new. It runs as a Python library and as a service at the edge. The source is private for now and available on request to partners, researchers and customers who want to run it themselves: write to hello@wherebase.io. An open-source reference implementation, free to use, is in progress and will be announced here. Wherebase is the hosted, account-based layer on top: sign-in, keys, OAuth for Claude and ChatGPT, phone capture and the pendant firmware.
